Inge Thomson (accordion, vocal & percussion)

Originally from Scotland's remotest community of Fair Isle in the far northern Shetland Islands, Inge combines the traditions of her childhood with an exceptional ear for musical invention and wider influences as diverse as Le Mystère Des Voix Bulgares and Steve Reich. She performs with vibrant folk quintet Harem Scarem and the energetic Drop the Box, both of which showcase her own evocative song-writing and effortless airy vocals as well as her instrumental empathy. Blessed with a rare talent for musical understatement, Inge has most recently been writing for a Harem Scarem touring collaboration with the magnificent Will Oldham aka Bonnie Prince Billy. She is also one head of the genre defying musical monster that is The Green Machine, a project spawned from a Celtic Connections New Voices commission, and brainchild of fellow accordion virtuoso Martin Green.

A word or two from Inge:

"The musician I'd most like to invite round for a cup of tea is Björk, a very inventive, knowledgeable musician who I think would also be a good laugh.

Martin Green wrote 2 tunes for my grandfather and father respectively, called "Two Stewarts". The first tune never fails to make me cry.

An album I'll never get tired of is "May Monday" by Karen Tweed & Timo Alakotilla - beautiful arrangements of great material, no skippers.

The thing I like best about being a musician is being given the opportunity to travel to different countries, but not as a tourist. We get to experience people at their best, make lasting friendships and learn far more about a place and its culture."
